There are many generous rebate programs that can lower the cost of home energy upgrades for BC residents. But they aren’t always straightforward to navigate, and they do tend to change from time to time. Luckily, if you’re a Retrofit Assist participant, we’ll proactively let you know when rebates and financing offers have changed or are expected to change.
If you are already a Retrofit Assist participant, you received an email from our team in early April about changes to funding programs. We are sharing them here because it’s important for anyone considering home energy upgrades to know that these funding programs will not be around forever—now is a great time to lower the cost of your new heat pump, to add insulation, or upgrade windows and doors.
Existing and Continuing Programs
- Canada Greener Homes Loan has been extended with an additional $600 million in funding. This is a very popular program because it is interest-free!
- CleanBC Better Homes rebates for building envelope and electric to heat pump installations remain.
- CleanBC Energy Savings Program remains. This rebate program offers enhanced rebates for income-qualified households.
Rebate Changes
Some rebates have been reduced, and others are increasing. If you think your in-progress or planned retrofit might be affected by these changes, there are additional details online or you can call or email your Retrofit Assist coordinator (if you are a participant).
- Confirmed change as of April 11, 2025:
- CleanBC Better Homes rebate for fossil fuel to heat pump installations ends (was up to $3,000).
- Confirmed changes as of May 1, 2025:
- CleanBC Better Homes electric to heat pump rebate increases from $1,000 or $2,000 (depending on utility provider) to $4,000
- FortisBC Dual Fuel Heating System rebate drops from $10,000 to $5,000 and the $15,000 income qualified stream ends.
- Expected change as of June 1, 2025:
- We anticipate that the Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program will launch this summer. This program is for low-to-median-income households and offers direct installations with no-upfront cost.
If you are a Retrofit Assist participant and curious how these changes affect your retrofit plan, reach out to us and we can give you more information.
These rebates will not last forever, so now is a great time to make a retrofit plan and start your upgrades.
