Our Process
Participating in Retrofit Assist will help you move forward on your home energy retrofit projects in clear steps. Here’s how the general process will look for you.
1. APPLY Register for the program online or on-site at a community event – simple and free.
2. IDENTIFY NEEDS Have a follow up conversation to highlight your needs and priorities, understand next steps and financing options available.
You’ll also learn how your home uses energy by setting up an EnerGuide evaluation. For a limited time, Retrofit Assist participants can book theirs for only $99 +tax, a savings of $500 or more!
3. MAKE A PLAN We’ll help you sort out a plan based on your priorities, home energy use, budget and timelines. We’ll also explain financing options.
4. CONTRACT OUT THE WORK We’ll connect you with skilled contractors to support your project and then help you get a post-retrofit evaluation.
We will also help you maximize the loans and rebates available.
5. ENJOY! Sit back and relax in your more comfortable and climate-friendly home.

Advancing East Kootenay's Climate Goals
Over the past 12 years, the RDEK has supported numerous programs and pilot projects to support homeowners and contractors in the East Kootenay access training, programming, and rebates for home energy retrofits:
East Kootenay Energy Diet – Provided rebates for home energy audits and support in navigating the rebate programs at the provincial level.
Building a Legacy – Focused on contractor and trades training to ensure foundational skills are being developed among the local building industry. This program has now been replicated in other regions in BC.
Kootenay Clean Energy Transition – This project started to marry the delivery of programs and the capacity building among builders and contractors. Included in this project were a Heat Pump pilot project and additional trades capacity building.
We are excited to be a funder of the Retrofit Assist program as it will provide additional tools, support and resources to our residents in making their homes more energy efficient.
